Meet Julia

I started my business in January 2020 so that I could offer my therapeutic skills and training to the community I love — Brockville and surrounding area — while also living out the values that guide my practice and personal life: work-life balance, parenting and attachment, and living out one's calling.

After completing my first psychology degree, I recognized that I was actually on a journey of self-discovery. I began to seek an understanding of what mental health looks and feels like at a deep, personal level.

My psychology training showed me the psychological structures and maladaptive (unhelpful) ways we often exist in the world. But I noticed something. We often talk about what poor mental health looks like. What then does good mental health look like?

“I noticed something. We often talk about what poor mental

health looks like. What then does good mental health look like?”

I started to investigate and was fascinated by what I found. There are many different facets that contribute to vibrant mental well-being. They include:

Physical Health
Self-Esteem
Community
Expressive Arts
Social Determinants
Relationships
Spiritual Health
Trauma Processing

It takes a combination of these factors to live out a healthy life and have a healthy mind. Understanding this can be key to moving forward when facing mental health challenges.

The Problem

We now know what good mental health looks like and which components contribute to our overall well-being. Sometimes, though, there are obstacles that get in the way of us obtaining those good mental health factors.

These obstacles can look like: stress, anxiety disorders, acute and developmental trauma, burnout, life transitions, grief, depression, self-harm, mood disorders, borderline personality disorder traits, body image issues, couples and relationship issues, parenting and caregiver challenges, lack of community, perfectionism, multi-cultural challenges, poor physical health, and more.

Healing from trauma and other challenges requires a framework that: is top-down (talk therapy), is bottom-up (somatic awareness like mindful movement), includes emotional expression (arts), and engages in community (classes, groups, support).

That’s where we come in.
